When I first read, “Why Blog” and watched the technology video, I wrote down that I completely agree with them, but I was still very afraid of them (learning). I knew that blogging will help me become a better teacher, that feedback from my peers is good and that it is cheap. But the one thing that the author of the blog said was that it is the most risk-free thing he’d done. I didn’t quite agree with that bit.
After having our blog discussions in class, I am aware of the things to be careful of (no names of anything or anyone and never bash anyone/anything). I know that if I do write something, I can always revise my post. I know that if I stick to the rules I will be safe.
I am so glad that I had this class. The other day, I actually helped a cohort member turn a word doc into a Google doc and then link that Google doc onto another Google doc. It made me feel so good……I actually did something with technology – and it worked! I like the fact that I can try something new. I am feeling more confident and think that these would be great tools to use in the classroom. (I would love to do a vignette with my future class!)
All in all, technology is important not only to my teaching, but also for my students. It will give them an experience that I never had as a kid. Technology and blogging are essential, enriching, and beneficial to any teacher in any classroom.
